: : During the briefing, they were vague about initial compensation, am I on my own until I start bringing in accounts?
***Yes, this job is 100% commission. So, in a way you are on your own until you set up accounts. However, the company has EXCELLENT training programs in place to help you succeed quickly. You will be assigned to a District Sales Coordinator (DSC) who will mentor you through the process. My DSC is AMAZING. He works so hard with all 3 of the new recruits in our office (including me) to make sure that we are on target and is there to help whenever we need it.***
I understand that I have to pay for my own license, what is the typical cost for everything involved in that?
***Yes, you have to pay for your license up front. This shows Aflac that you are serious about working for them as they are about to invest thousands of dollars in your first years training. I am in Oregon. My state certification set me back about $450 including the required coursework, background checks and licensing fees. I have been with the company for 4 weeks now and have made a little over half of that back. Next week I am opening my first group and have 3 others lined up. It IS hard work. But I am having a lot of fun doing it. I work with such a supportive group of people and everyone is there to answer questions and help whenever needed. Based on my current activity I anticipate being able to replace or exceed my prior monthly income regularly by the end of my first 3 months. If you choose to persue a career with Aflac please tell yourself that you are going to make a minimum of a one year committment. It will take that long to really get your business up and growing. Besides, after a year you start getting paid residuals and your income really starts to take off! =)***
: : Is there anything I should know before going in for the interview? I have never worked in insurance before... any help would be appreciated.
***As for the interview, go in with lots of questions. Ask your DSC (I assume that is who is interviewing you) how they see their role in helping you develop your business. Ask them what makes an exceptional Aflac Agent. Ask them what they love about this job and what they hate about it. I knew NOTHING about selling insurance when I interviewed. I interviewed them as much as they interviewed me. Most importantly, ask yourself if you can face rejection on a daily basis and not take it personaly. You will hear no A LOT. WAY more than you will hear yes. This is a numbers game. It takes a lot of no to get to yes. Besides, usually they aren't saying no, but "not now". It may be a bad day for them personally or the company for the quarter The person you talked to may not like your shoes! Find another way in. There is always a time and place that Aflac will be right. It just may not be the precise moment that you call or drop in to set up an appointment or ask for their business. Just keep trying. Persistance always pays off.
