: My husband has been in the military for just over 20 years and we have had USAA coverage for our cars because it was cheap and supposed to be good. : My husband spent every afternoon and weekend for 3 years modifying and customizing my car only for it to be stolen almost 2 months ago. I now know that only car people out there can appreciate the attachment to that special, perfect car! : As soon as we reported it stolen, USAA started with the "It's just an old car" line. The car was recovered with a blown engine, lots of wiring damage and theft of several items. Well since my husband had customised the car for me, I wanted to keep it and get it fixed. I explained my reasons very clearly to the USAA claims agent. The agent was extremely rude and talked to me like she was scolding a child when I adamantly said I wanted to keep the car. I LOVED THAT CAR!!! Finally after talking to the engineer, USAA agreed we could keep my car and still process the theft claim. (At first they said if we wanted to keep the car and fix it, that they weren't going to even submit the claim!!!) : Two weeks after we get the car back, they decide to come and take the car because it was costing them too much money. In that two weeks, we had already spents thousands of 's and $'s on parts to fix her up and get her back on the road. We had also torn her apart and had begun getting her ready for the new parts. (Many of which we decided to upgrade since we were doing all the work anyway.) : Therefore, after they took the car, they are now withholding the payment because we had taken it apart and it wasn't exactly like it was the first time they looked at it. We couldn't find all the parts that were originally on the car because some of them were thrown out because they were no good and others were just put away with all the other parts to our 3 project cars.(Again only car people will understand the insanity of project cars.) : To make a long story short, USAA told my husband that we are not allowed to "come out ahead" because my car was stolen and if they pay us at all, it will be significantly reduced. So I feel violated all over again since my perfect car is gone and I won't ever be able to replace it because I have no money! : We are now looking for a new insurance company for our good cars and other insurance needs.
