: : My husband was contacted by a Primeamerica rep. Curious about what you think. What's "the word on the street"?

Cindy,

Primerica recruits new people for the explicit purpose of getting into their address book, or as they say it "warm market". Your "trainer", and I use that term only loosely, will go to your family & friends for the purpose of selling them plain-vanilla term insurance, and on the rare occasion that they get a securities license, they will try to sell a platform fund (like Legg Mason). Your part is to sit back and watch them earn money......then you will be told to recruit and do the same thing to other people.

Primerica agents have NO FORMAL TRAINING aside from any pre-licensing training that they do. Their "Fast Start Schools" are nothing more than giant rah-rah-rallies to get everyone excited, and of course to brainwash them into believing that everyone else in the world is selling cancer. Primerica cannot offer a "financial plan", because none are CFPs. In fact, they legally cannot even say "financial plan" (or any tricky variation thereof).

Now, they do have their place. For $99 $25 per month these days, you can get in and get your licensing taken care of (plus maybe some small nominal fees along the way). Once you have a life & health license, plus a Series 6/63, you can bug out and join a more legitimate operation. Just make sure that your "upline" stays away from your family & friends. No exceptions period. Remember that the purpose is to get fully licensed and nothing else.

Now, for what Primerica really is.....
It is a MLM marketing company posing as the "distribution arm for Citigroup". But make no mistake, this is a classic MLM pyramid-style company where agents at the bottom starve while the fat-cats at the top of the pointy point get rich. The odds of ever becoming one of the fat cats is very slim at best, and even if one made it, they have to be able to live with themselves as they continually preach a message to their "downline" that can never be duplicated.

If you or your husband are still interested in financial services - great. Get licensed. Then find a qualified and reputable player in your market.

J.
