: Hello my name is Jade Lee, I have an interest in the company primerica because i may have an opportunity to work there, however, I have not been able to find out what type of work I would be doing, red flags went up and I have been searching for more information on them I came across you web site and want to know what happened that you are so upset about, how you know of them, what your relationship was, an employee, a client, you knew someone? I want to help people get out of debt, but if it is a scam I want no part of it. The better business BBB does not have any bad information on them, please respond back but in the : re: please put ATTENTION Jade Lee info on primerica. : Jade Lee Hey Jade, Maybe I can help. I'm not a Primerica Representative and I've never been burned by Primerica. A good friend of mine, however, is a Primerica Rep, so I'm familiar with their practices and philosophies. I've also done a fair amount of research on Primerica. Basically, Primerica is a multi-level marketing system that recruits people to sell life insurance and investments to the public while encouraging debt reduction and responsible spending in their customer base. Sound too good to be true? Well, it is and it isn't. Primerica is very similar to Amway/Quixtar, although Primerica's "product" is more useful that those peddled by Amway Reps. You are "recruited" by a company Representative, who in turn works under another company Rep, and so on. Each Rep receives a commission on what she sells and also on what her recruits sell (people she recruits are "under" her, and are called her "downline"). The commission percentage depends on how many people she's recruited, as well as how many policy's she's sold. Usually, new Primerica Reps concentrate on building their downline, so they typically make very little money at first. If your looking for supplemental income and have a fair amount of time to invest, Primerica might be right for you. If you're looking to live off of Primerica earnings from the start, you'd better have some money saved up, at least initially. While Primerica Reps are fond of tossing around six-figure salaries as incentives, the reality is that few people make more money at Primerica than they could have made in the job they left after the same amount of time. That can very easily start a flame war, so let me explain. What many people have said about Primerica is true - you get out of it what you put into it. Of course, that's true with just about everything, but with Primerica (and multi-level marketing in general) that takes on more emphasis. You cannot treat Primerica like a job. Primerica is a way of life. You eat Primerica, you breathe Primerica, you live Primerica. If you don't, if you treat Primerica like just another job, you're not going to succeed in Primerica. Because Primerica is commission only, you have to be "sales aware" all the time, no matter where you are. Everyone is a potential customer. That's what most people don't realize going into it, and that's why Primerica's turnover rate is astronomical. Primerica Reps who say that they've been with Primerica for a year and have made $40,000 while working three or four hours a day at it probably aren't lying, but their results are not typical. If you want the big payoff, you have to go all the way. Primerica isn't a job you train for, it's a job you change for. Some people think the change is for the better, some don't. But all will attest that it's not easy (you don't get motivational cassettes and videos at Primerica for no reason). I've seen messages posted here saying that the people who don't make in Primerica just don't want to work hard. Those people are literally trying to sell you something - Primerica. Primerica's pitch is good and well-organized, and they back up what they say with facts, figures and charts. But like everything, there are two sides to every story. Below are some Primerica-isms, and after them I've put what I've found to be true for most people. Note that anything in brackets [] are from www.Primerica.com 1. At Primerica you're building your own business: True, but. . . --- At Primerica you're building your downline, the layer of people below you (and the layer below them, and so on) that you receive commissions from. If you decide to leave Primerica, you cannot take your downline with you. 2. At Primerica, we teach people how money works so they can make informed decisions about how to manage their finances. True, but. . . --- [The Financial Needs Analysis is not a financial plan, and Representatives are not financial planners, investment advisors, financial consultants or other specialists who provide financial advice.] What that means is that what you provide is a "guide", not a "plan." While the nuance may be lost on many, it is significant. The Financial Needs Analysis, the promotion levels and the "rank" names (like District Manager) are proprietary to Primerica only, and are not an industry standard. The higher in "rank" you become the higher your commission percentage. I believe that District Manager is 50% commission, but I'm not sure. While on the subject of money. . . 3. Personal Income Today Goal 2004 $2,000,000 - $4,999,999 11 20 $1,000,000 - $1,999,999 24 85 $100,000 - $999,999 1,522 6,000 $50,000 - $99,999 3,653 15,000 --- [The earnings listed accurately demonstrate the range of earnings achieved by top earners in our sales force of more than 100,000 representatives. Most RVP/Representatives do not achieve these levels, so you should not consider these results any guarantee that you will achieve any specific earnings level. Your earnings are dependent on your own efforts and abilities. Actual earnings also depend upon the organization size that you build, the number of sales and override commissions you earn and the efforts of your downlines.]
Okay, over 100,000 employees but only 5200 make more than $50,000 a year? That's 5%. That means 95% of Primerica Representatives make less than that. Less that 2% make more that $100,000 a year. Do you think you're in the 2% that make the big bucks? Personally, Primerica gives me the creeps. I can't really put my finger on it, but I just don't care for it. I did some research on it, and the more I learned the less I liked. It seems shady. My good friend, who's a very dedicated Primerica Representative, disagrees with me. I'm okay with that. As long as he feels Primerica is the thing for him, I'm behind him 100%. If it turns out he's in the 2% that makes it big, great. If he quits tomorrow, then that's okay, too. It's his choice, and he's still my friend. Primerica is definately not right for me, but that doesn't mean it's not right for everyone else. This is the stuff I've noticed, heard, and learned about Primerica. No matter what you decide to do, I hope this made your decision easier to make. Best of luck, Visionary
