: Ann:

: (7) How can questions be wrong? (8) Is it wrong to even scrutinize AFLACs product?

: I got my information from the AFLAC product information page(which i pointed out). Also i called the company this morning. This comes straight from AFLAC honey. (9) If i am "way offbase" let me know how, so i can contact AFLAC and notify them to correct their erroneous information?

: (10) Why did you not answer even one of my 6 questions? I am giving you a fair shake and getting more information, not simply saying "AFLAC sucks don't touch them." (11) Will you be answering at least one of my 6 questions?

: Until then, it seems to me the agents selling this product want to have it both ways. In reality, (12) is the product is actually sold in place of a major medical policy, as was the case with the couple you pointed out, correct? (13) Why did they have AFLAC if they didn't have major medical, since it is supposed to be supplmenting a health insurance policy?

: Since I don't think you will answer, I will hypothosize why. AFLAC agent Johnny B. Good approches Cruel Boss Man about offering his emloyees AFLAC. He tells the employer you don't have health insurance, great, offer them AFLAC instead, the employees pay the cost, we do the administration, and you actually look like a decent guy for giving them the option.

: Joe Six Pack who works for Cruel Boss Man, now has options. Of course, he must be underwritten,
: so if he actually needs medical coverage, (supplemental or otherwise), (14) wouldn't he be left out in the cold with AFLAC?

: (15) And Joe Six Pack doesn't choose or doesn't qualify for the Personal Sickness Indemnity, Accident/Disability, Short-Term Disability, Specified Health Event, Hospital Confinement Indemnity or Hospital Intensive Care, then he wouldn't get any benefits from those, correct? Whereas one group major medical policy would cover all those. (16) Why does AFLAC have to break one decent health policy into 6 types of coverages? It seems like an easy way to get the company out of paying for this and / or that. What you might end up with could be the ultimate in exclusionary policies. Please let me know, this is a public forum, i just hope you contribute something material to this discussion, instead of "you're way offbase"

: : : Ann:

: : : I appreciate your efforts to help the family. Lower cost, good benefits, should almost "too good to be true." My first question would be why was the policy sold to a company in the first place if the employees did not have REAL health insurance? (2) Did the agent mention to the company that maybe they should look at REAL group health insurance first?

: : : Off AFLACs own website, they only cover "Specified Health Events" which have to be life threatening and include:

: : : Heart attack and coronary artery bypass surgery, Stroke, Major human organ transplant and Coma.
: : : What ar the limitations and exlusions on the policy, I am sure there are many, just like every other insurance policy. (3) What if the illness wasn't covered under AFLACs limitations and exclusions?

: : : Would the emloyee / couple would have been screwed, with no health insurance to pay for the medical expenses and lost income to boot, while still payng premiums to AFLAC?

: : : But I can see AFLACs use as a SUPPLMENTAL "sort of" short term disability policy.

: : : Also from ALFAC's website:

: : : "At AFLAC, our insurance policies help supplement primary health plans by providing
: : : direct-to-the-policyholder cash benefits, unless the insured chooses otherwise, to fill gaps in traditional health insurance coverage, such as deductibles, out-of-pocket expenses and loss of earning power, among others."

: : : Since AFLAC talks about "filling in gaps" and supplementing, (4) while you are saying this policy was sold to the company as primary coverage?

: : : They do have a "Personal Sickness Indemnity" feature but only for "covered sicknesses" I would be curious to find out what those are.

: : : And it is said that "the benefits are for you, not some hospital" but i understand that many hospitals ask for assignment of benefits when treating the person anyway. (5) Wouldn't that make this an inferior, inadequite health policy if the health provider gets the beneft anyway?

: : : The ceiling on many major medical plans are 1,000,000 to $5,000,000. (6) What does AFLAC pay out in a lifetime?

: : : Another MAJOR problem ALFAC undergoes underwriting for each employee, and it depends on each persons health history. Unlike group health insurance, people that have had a serious illness in the rcent past might be short changed, since they had a pre existing condition. This is why ALFAC is sold IN ADDITION TO major medical coverage. (7) But how many employers would offer AFLAC in addition to real group health insurance? I think it would be a tough sale, for more paperwork, and the employer gains nothing.

: : : Awaiting your response,

: : : Agent

: : : : : Ann:

: : : : : Wait a second, how can you have a "supplemental insurance product" if you aren't "supplementing" anything, yet making this inferior coverage youir primary means of protection?

: : : : : Agent
: : : : her
: : : : : : : Clueless:

: : : : : : : I have heard bad things about them, specifically when there is a claim. But regardless of their reputation, keep in mind AFLAC is supplmental coverage. Do you have a regular disability policy with much greater coverage? A good medical plan? If not, get these taken care of first before SUPPLMENTING with AFLAC. This is a very niche product, so i would proceed with care.
: : : : : : : This may or may not be the case with your agent.

: : : : : : : Agent

: : : : : : : : We had an AFLAC agent come to our office today and offer several plans to us employees. He said that all but one type of coverage is deducted pre-tax from our paychecks, so it will marginally lower our taxes.

: : : : : : : : Does AFLAC do what it says? Is it a good value for the premium? (To cover me and my wife with Accident, Hospital, Personal Recovery Plus, Intensive Care, and Cancer; plus just me with Short-Term Disability, it will cost $2,200.00 per year - $91.20 per semi-monthly paycheck)

: : : : : : : : I don't have time to do the extensive research required to make an informed decision, so I hope the people who read this board will give me some guidance.

: : : : : : : : Please note that the agent did not sell all of those policies as a single "package." I totaled them all up myself since I'm an all-or-nothing personality! lol :)

: : : : : : : : Thank you for any advice and guidance.

: : : : : : : : Clueless Employee
: : : : : : **************************************************
: : : : : : AFLAC has the best supplemental insurance products that you can own even if you do not have major medical Insurance!

: : : : **************************************************
: : : : Let me give you an example: Last year I wrote AFLAC policies on a company that had no Major Medicial Coverage in place 2 month after the policies were written one of the owner's daughter became seriously ill. The child was placed in children's hospital. The mother and father took off work to be with their child while she was recovering from her illness! Within 30 days after the little girls illness AFLAC had paid the family over 22,000.00. What did AFLAC supplement?
: : : : It supplemented some of income that would have been lost if the family did not have the Supplemental coverage. (AFLAC)

: : **************************************************
: : Agent,
: : Where did you get your information? Did I say that it was sold as major medical? NO I DID NOT!
: : Take the time to read what a person is saying!
: : Because you are totally off base!!!

Agent,

I don't think you understand what supplemental insurance is. Supplemental insurance does not supplement major medical, it supplements lost income. It is never a replacement for major medical. Benefits are not paid to the providers but to the policyholder.

Johnny
