: : James:

: : I know how you feel, having to follow up on bills they ned to pay.
: : I have often wondered how many people mistakenly pay these bills they send out, saving aetna millions.
: : I personally don't think it's a mistake we get those kind of bills. I have had to dispute quite a few, after it appears i don't have health insurance at all,
: : with the carrier sending me a request to pay for every procedure in full.

: : Part of it i know is that the carriers want to make sure you aren't getting medical care for a pre existing condition, and they have to verify
: : from your general physican that that was not the case. And in the mean time, could you please pay this $18,000!

: : The good part of medical bills is that if you pay even $20 per month, they won't sell your account or send you to the collection hounds.
: : So you can pay near nothing to have these goons kept off of you.

: : Agent

: :
: : : I received a letter from Aetna that they would not pay for
: : : X-rays, on ankle, that I injured in Nov. Reason, because they did not
: : : receive a referral, written or electronic. I think Aetna, should get off
: : : their lazy ass and contact the doctors.
: : : That is their job, not mine.

: You may find that Aetna is not at fault and it may be your doctors office if you have a PPO plan.

: You see, with a PPO plan the doctors office is required to send FIRST a referral letter to a Aetna plan member doctor, clinic or hospital directing them to do this or that or whatever.

: In your case since it appears you ankle was hurt from an accident, if it was you could have directly to the Emergency Room of a hospital plan member of Aetna and the bill would have been taken care of with the exception of $25.00 I think which is your co-pay in the Emergency Room with an Aetna plan.

Check YOUR policy before relying on what KY has said. I know of no health company which has identical plans for everyone. Without knowing the language of your policy, there is no way anyone can comment on the amount payable under that policy. My own health insurer has at leat a dozen plans and deductibles are different for each plan. ER visits for accidents MAY have low deductibles, but may not. Check your own policy before relying on unqualified advice.
