AFLAC is supplemental group health coverage with individual underwriting. There are many many plans to choose from and it's a large jump to go from a novice, to selling a complex variety of group insurance products that AFLAC offers.

My best advice would be to sell some smaller individual plans and then look at offering real group health insurance (with no underwriting) once you have some experiance.

That way you can compare the AFLAC product to genuine health insurance and see the advantages (I couldn't find many) to the disadvantages (to both agent and client).

I have examined AFLAC twice over my career and it's just not for me. You however may be better suited to marketing it, just get some experiance under your belt first.

: I am very interested in becoming an independent insurance agent in Florida (specifically Cocoa Beach area). I am 41 with a good deal of management experience, some sales but no insurance. Any feedback re: Aflac also of interest, though I so far understand that "Independent" is the way to go. Any advise is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.
