Put $500,000 20yr. terrm on your husband, and use term riders for you and the children. If your husband is a non-smoker, the policy should cost you less than $35.00 per month. Take the other money left over from the $102, $67 per month ,and put it into a Roth, or moderate risk mutual fund. Try Vanguard Index funds, no-loads. And get rid of the whole life. Take the cash value of the WL and put it into a side-fund like the other money. You will be much better off.
