Most homeowners policies are pretty close in coverage language, with one recent exception: mold. I have no idea the mold coverage from Hartford, but I have seen all companies trying to limit their exposure, from complete exclusions of all mold-related claims, to limits of $2,500-$10,000. I would find out the policy provisions for this coverage in all the companies from whom you solicit quotes. I would pay a bit more for a higher limit ($10,000 isn't much actually).

Where this becomes important is the following scenario:
You are on vacation for a week. The day after you leave, the supply line to your second floor toilet breaks, beginning to flood your home. The neighbors notice water running out the door by day 3 or so and shut off the water. By the time you return, mold is growing up the walls.

The mold claim in that case might exceed $50,000. If excluded by your policy, you would have to pay or remove the mold yourself and then pay an industrial hygienist to test and certify that you have no toxic mold problem.

: Considering buying auto and homeowners insurance from The Hartford. Would appreciate comments from anybody with experience with this company
