: I recently had a ski accident anb broke my hip bone. I was sent to the hospital by an ambulance. It's a nearly 2 hour drive. Yesterday I received a statement from United Health Care(UHC), they would only about $1100 out of the totally $2300 ambulance bill. I called them, they told me the ambulance is out of network and they pay 100% of UCR rate, and left the rest $1200 to me. This just doesn't look right to me. I was in no condition checking out or bargaining what ambulance and at what rate I wanted to use. What can I do to this $1200 bill? Should I call the ambulance company to negotiate the cose? or should I file a appeal to UHC? Any adive on how to deal wih this situation? And BTW, I have PPO of UHC. ====================== take the time and appeal, document everything to its fullest. I would even go as far as calling ambulance companies in the area and find out what they charge. just be aware you are appealing the RNC of the claim (that is the amount it pays out) not your ben. if you appeal your ben I can gaurentee that your appeal will be denied.
