: I am looking for information regarding an article I read in the 1980's about A.L. Williams spending some time in jail over securities fraud or insurance problems. My friend claims there was a news article some years back detailing the particulars and I also seem to remember seeing a periodical article to that effect. Any help?
From what I recall, he was investigated for actions taken against an individual (fired from A.L. Williams, for company violations and potential fraudulent business ) that was attempting to build an recruit ALW agents into his new business, by offering top contracts and selling the same concept.
He was turned in by his own NSD's and eventually sold the company to Citigroup.
Today they still think they are the only ones that sell term insurance, when in fact it's embraced by the entire industry not just PFS and many are substanially less expensive, while reps are paid more to offer a better value.
They are building with young people and few knowlegdeable experienced agents that understand that the theory of decreasing responsiblity doesn't always hold up, but that's another story.
