I am considering leaving a career as a Lieutenant in law enforcement, due to stress, financial problems within California State Government and the possibility of lay-off. I am 8 years shy of retirement, but think I may better my $62,000 annual income by doing something else. I have interviewed with AFLAC, is it realistic to make $62,000 or more in your first year? I normally work 10-14 hour days. I have enough money to keep myself afloat for about 3 months without any income.

Should I stick it out in law enforcement for another 8 years to get 60% at 50, then put my work ethic to work for someone like AFLAC. At 50, I will have more of a safety net. I just need to keep from having a heart attack or stroke by 50. I don't see the states problems turning around anytime soon.
