: : I am thinking about applying for a sales position with Federated Insurance. Wondering if anyone has worked for this company and has any thoughts on it??

: : Thanks,

: Man, I would run. I would run really fast in the other direction. Hell, I would run door to door pushing magazines before I would go back there. They will tell you they will make you rich, give you some books to read, boot you out the door and send you to podunk city and pray you go into so much debt that you work 120 hrs a wk while riding in YOUR OWN CAR, PAYING YOUR OWN GAS, with ALL EXPENSES coming out of YOUR POCKET...RUN FOREST RUN

Hey Stinky Fingers: You're flirting with a real cult. It's not the Branch Davidians, but Federated is a brain-washing type of organization.

Smart move, stinky pinky, by chosing the field of insurance. Terrible move, however, by joining the Federated organization. Do your research. Do your math. Due Diligence! Sure....they'll tell you want you want to hear when you are desperatley looking for a job. They say you'll make over 80K during your first year. Ooops!!!! they probably forget to tell you that you'll be out-of-pocket to pay for a secretary ($500/month), your own "Business" phone, fax, & long distance(another $150/month), your own car, your own gas, your own car insurance, ($900/month auto related charges, Computer Charge ($25), computer fee for your secreatary ($35/Month), Advertising ($25/month), Office Supplies $50/month, Cell phone ($100/month), E&O insurance ($35/month). Sure, they will pay for $300/month of expenses during your first coule of years. You do the math! The only way to justify joining Federated is to allow them to pay for your licensing, then take the salary they offer while you look for a real job.

Assuming your Director of Field operations isn't a WHIMP--Insurance Management Pig, you may get lucky and win a few trips. If so, the cheap bastards will make you and your faimly pay the taxes. This will add about $7,000 to your taxable income. During the trip, they feed you some beers and good food. But, they'll force you to sit through a 3-hour presentaion.......a real dog-and-pony show similar to an AMWAY convention. Each night, they have themed activities planned such as 50's night, Western night, etc. It's a real cult my friend. Sure, they'll walk a couple guys across the stage who made 300-400K the year before.

They say they are a family oriented firm. Just make sure you bonus your manager prior to scheduling your family crisis. For example, on my way to a funeral for an immediate family member, my supervisor called to verify that I submitted a life insurance application. Another example: My boss made me drive 6 hours to talk about life insurance sales while my spouse was in the ICU the night before. On the first anniversary of 9-11, they handed out pink slips to 25 employees. Talk about a guttless organization. All-in-all, they fired over 100 people in the past 2 years....(on the backs of enough families) to lease a corporate jet.

Unfortunatley, I can go on-and-on. You know Buster Himen, no company is perfect. But Federated........man, they are plain and simply a turd in wrapping paper. You just have to trust your senses......and when you smell a turd...Run.

Sincerely,

Ben Derhover
